Does it matter which runner runs which leg?
Team members must run in a fixed order. The first runner
completes Sections 1,
7, and 13;
the second runner completes Sections 2,
8, and 14
and so on. If your team is short one or more runners,
or if a runner can no longer continue because of medical
reasons, you should consult the Official Rules regarding
substitutions.
How long will it take to complete the race?
A good approximation is to total the 5K times of all
six runners and then multiply by 3.5. For example, all
six team members average 20 minutes for a 5K, the total
times for all six runners would be 120 minutes. Multiplying
by 3.5 gives an estimate of approximately 7 hours to
finish the race. A team starting at 6:45 a.m. would
have to average approximately 11:42 pace to complete
the course before the finish line closes at 7:00 p.m.
A team starting at 8:25 would have to average approximately
10:06 pace to finish the course by 7:00 p.m.
What should we bring in the way of supplies?
It is always wise to have clothing for any type of
weather. Some runners like to bring extra socks and
shoes. Some other suggestions are:
- lots of water
- any other refreshments you want
- litter bags
- first aid supplies
- toilet paper
- shampoo, soap, towels and a change of clothes (if
you plan to shower after the race)
- money for gas, to purchase refreshments and other
supplies along the way, and for after the race.
Food, drinks, and other basic supplies can be purchased
at the start in Winchester as well as in White Hall
and Roodhouse along the course.
