What do we do at each exchange?
DO NOT STOP IN THE EXCHANGE AREA TO DISCHARGE YOUR
RUNNER! DO NOT OBSTRUCT TRAFFIC OR RUNNERS TO DISCHARGE
YOUR RUNNER! Race officials will direct traffic
at the exchanges. Parking will generally be 100 - 500
yards beyond the exchange but this is not true at all
exchanges. Please read your course description and listen
to the race officials at the exchange for detailed information.
ALWAYS BE ALERT FOR OTHER VEHICLES
AND RUNNERS. VEHICLES MUST YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY TO
RUNNERS!
Spectators and other team members should remain on
the right side of the road. We realize that it may be
convenient to mill about on the pavement but it is imperative
that the roads be kept clear for moving vehicles and
runners. Please be alert for runners and traffic and
be courteous at all times. Always follow the instructions
of race officials. The officials may penalize or disqualify
teams that refuse to follow instructions.
What happens if our runner gets stopped at a rail
crossing?
The course traverses three rail crossings; volunteers
will be posted at each crossing. In the event that a
runner is stopped by a train, the volunteer will record
your race number and the exact amount of time the runner
is delayed. Your finish time will be adjusted accordingly.
What happens if our van gets stopped at a rail
crossing and we are late getting to the exchange?
The volunteers at the rail crossing will record the
team number of any van that is delayed at the transition
and the amount of time the van is there. In the event
that any runner arrives at one of the affected transitions
and the next runner isn t present, the volunteers have
been instructed to record the time the in-coming runner
arrives and to record the time when that team's next
runner reaches the transition.
Once we have verified that your van was delayed at a
crossing we will deduct the smaller of (a) the
amount of time your van was held at the crossing or
(b) the amount of time between when your runner
arrived and the time when your next runner reached the
transition.
